Analysing how blockchain technology contributes to traceability for sustainable supply chain: an empirical study
Résumé
Traceability is becoming a major concern for sustainable supply chains (SSC) in the context where markets become complex and in which consumers expect a high level of quality specifically in food industry. While Blockchain Technology (BT) is quite new in companies, it is gaining more attention within SSC. This paper aims to examine how companies in food industry enact traceability to achieve sustainability goals and how BT can contribute to improve traceability providing quality of the data, transparency and trust. Four cases in the food industry have been investigated using secondary data and a template analysis of 7 interviews. Standardization of traceability processes and interoperability, independent governance were found to be key conditions before BT could be used.
